Data Backup is an important part of any business plan. It helps provide for business continuity in case of data corruption or a workplace disaster. Most business insurance carriers require some form of data backup as do regulations governing several industries.
We provide a multi layered backup approach that best meets your business needs.
We normally maintain multiple copies of daily backups on site which is written to optical media.
Why multiple copies? In case of data corruption or data entry error, having multiple copies allows us to restore the data to a point before the problem. This important, because it can take a great deal of time to remove all traces of errors, may require fees from a vendor with a proprietary data format an can often leave artifacts that will cause problems down the road.
Why use optical media on site? We like to keep a copy of the data on site, because modern software systems involve a great deal of data. The time it takes to download the backup copy just adds to the delay in getting your systems up and running. We also use optical media, because it can survive some disasters in the workplace — think of flood, lightning or fire sprinkler damage.
We also maintain daily backups on off site servers that are archived to optical media on a regular basis. This allows for a business to get back up and running even if the office computers where a total loss — think theft or fire.
We have experience with both SEC and HIPAA regulations that require more specific backup plans than just software data.
We can help you design and implement a backup plan, write a formal Disaster Recovery Plan and also perform required testing.
